[BEGIN LOG – RECORDED YC125.315 – 03:09 GST]

Heya, Ma.

Still alive. Beans are flowering this week and we finally got the nitrate cycling steady.
Anyway—guess what happened last night?

I was outside the dome, recalibrating the thermal vent struts.
Had the helmet speakers off. Quiet out there.
Then I saw it.

Out past the dark line, where the stars are real still…
the sky **opened**.

Not like a solar flare, not like static from the Gate.
It was **smooth**. Like somebody peeled space back—just a sliver—and held a match to it.

There was no sound, but I swear the soil under my boots vibrated.
Real slow. Real deep.
Like… like something waking up under the crust.

Then it closed. Like it had never been there.

I called it in. Base said it was a satellite glitch.
Yeah, well—satellites don’t blink, Ma.

Not like that.

Anyway. We’re fine. I made chili.

Love you.

— Marla
